SUMMER PROGRAMS 2017 • Preliminary Allocations – released January 18 • Notify OSPI of intent to apply for summer funds – February 3 • Application available first part of February – iGrants Form Package 560 • Final allocations will be posted in iGrants • Grant Application Due – March 24 OFFICE OF SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION

SUMMER PROGRAMS 2017 • Summer funds may be used to provide: • academic support in reading and/or mathematics and may use Science or STEM as a core component for instruction • credit retrieval • student leadership/community engagement projects • family literacy • jumpstart programs for Kindergarten or transitions to new school buildings or high school • Programs may be school or home based. • Funds can also be used for transportation including students needing assistance to and from the Dare to Dream Academy pick-up/drop-off sites. • Field experiences are allowable when they are connected to the academic instruction occurring in a school or home-based model. • All programs will incorporate a pre and post component to measure academic progress or stability of participating migrant students. SUMMER PROGRAMS 2017 National Summer Learning Association Key strengths Areas of improvement Belonging – strengthen the development of a sense of belonging for the student Collaboration and Leadership – provide youth opportunities to collaborate and work cooperatively with others Planning, Choice, Reflection – provide youth opportunities to direct their own learning • Emotional Safety – predominately positive and there is a mutual respect for inclusion of all students. • Healthy Environment – program spaces are free of health and safety hazards, are clean and suitable for all student activities. • Program Flow – evident that programs are planned and presented at a pace set for students. Sufficient materials are available to work with all students. Staff is given appropriate amount of time to complete academic instruction and activities. Dare to Dream 2017 • Washington State University – June 11-17 and June 18-24; Math and Science Academies – currently enrolled 10th and 11th grade migrant students • Central Washington University – June 18-24; Dare to Dream Exploring Your Future – currently enrolled 8th and 9th grade migrant students; Science Academy – currently enrolled 10th and 11th grade migrant students • University of Washington – June 18-24; Dare to Dream Exploring Your Future – currently enrolled 8th and 9th grade migrant students; Science Academy – currently enrolled 10th and 11th grade migrant students • Eastern Washington University – June 25-July 1; Dare to Dream Exploring Your Future – currently enrolled 8th and 9th grade migrant students; Math Academy – currently enrolled 10th and 11th grade migrant students • All materials will be posted on MSDRS website What About Snow Days??? Dare to Dream 2017 • Registration deadline – March 3(all forms should be sent to MSDRS) • Informational Videoconference – February 27:00 – 8:00 p.m. • Registration Confirmation Videoconference – May 247:00 – 8:00 p.m. • Standby Student Registration • Open registration after March 3 • All unfilled spots will be open to districts on a first-come first-filled basis • Working with universities to ensure buses have capacity • Buses may not come directly to your district/city, may need to help students get to pick-up/drop off site • Confirmation videoconference will focus on what-to-pack and bus route information • Don’t get confused with other classmates who may not be attending same event • When in doubt, contact MSDRS OFFICE OF SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION
