Type Of Disease • Avian Influenza, commonly known as bird flu, is a flu infection in birds. • This virus can cause infection and mutation in humans. • If the mutation spreads, it can cause a worldwide epidemic.
Description Of The Disease • Bird flu is lethal in poultry and fatal if a human is infected. • It is also caused by type A strains of the influenza virus. • Slightly more than 60% of those who have been infected have died.
History Of The Disease • The first bird flu infection occurred in Hong Kong in 1997. • The epidemic was related to chickens. • Since then it has been reported in Asia, Africa, Europe, Indonesia, and the Pacific.
Symptoms Of The Disease • Cough • Diarrhea • Difficulty Breathing • Fever • Headache • Malaise • Muscle Aches • Runny Nose • Sore Throat
Transmission Of The Disease • It is caused Directly from birds or from avian influenza A virus in contaminated environments to people. • Or through an intermediate host, such as a duck or a pig.
Curse or Treatments • People with severe infection may need to be placed on a breathing machine. • Experts recommend that persons diagnosed with avian flu be put in isolation. • Doctors recommend that people get an influenza (flu) shot to reduce the chance of an avian flu virus mixing with a human flu Virus.
