Simile Simile is when you compare two or more things using like or as. Examples My dog is big as a bear. My dad is strong as a ox .
Metaphor Metaphor – comparing two or more things without using like or as Examples My dog is a bear. My sister is a rat.
Hyperbole Hyperbole- using exaggeration to make a point Examples He ran like the wind. She is older than dirt.
Onomatopoeia Onomatopoeia- sound words Examples-He fell down the stairs with a loud thump. The crazy dog ate my brothers thumb with a loud crunch.
Alliteration Alliteration-Repetition of a beginning sound Examples-The green grass grew in the yard. The black bear buried his paws in the berry bush.
Personification Personification- giving human qualities to something that isn’t human Examples- The sun smiled at me as I walked to school. The tree danced in the wind.
Idiom Idiom-an expression that does not make sense. Example-I’m busy as a bee. The cat got my tongue.
