Simile using like or as to compare 2 things. Ex. You are dumb as a rock.
Metaphor A metaphor is comparing 2 things without using like or as something is something else. Ex. My house is a pig’s sty.
Hyperbloe A hyperbole is using exaggeration to make a point. Ex. You stink so bad birds fall out of the sky.
Onomatopoeia sound word Example: I can hear the gun bang a mile away.
Idiom A well known expression that does not mean what it says Example: You are still as a rock.
Alliteration Repetition of beginning sounds Example: I ate like a pig last night.
Personification giving human qualities to something not human Examples: My cat can use the toilet.
