  2. Answer: Colonial borders were based on needs for resources and for compromise with other colonial powers. Traditional borders were based on natural features, agreement and conflict.

  3. Map Lab Q3: How did colonization lead to conflict between present day cultures in Africa?

  4. Colonial borders ignored cultural and tribal borders. When African countries began to gain independence in the 1900’s, they didn’t change their colonial borders. Cultural differences, power struggles, control of territory and resources led to corrupt governments and civil war.
