Fifteen years of the most human face of Cellcommians It was Thomas himself, who candidly reminded us on 15th Dec. SUN night at 9 pm that “I have completed 15 years in Cellcomm”. Contrary to the expected (of Thomas) embarrassment, both I & Vijayan started clapping unintentionally and quite naturally. We three were discussing about felicitating 10 year completed Cellcommians during T2 meeting, which was scheduled on the very next day morning, after our regional review meetings on that SUN night. If I were in Thomas’s shoes, I would have, rather, wrongly anticipated that the other two (I & Vijayan) were keeping the ‘15 year business’ as a big secret to surprise Thomas the next day than assuming for such a mass negligence from all other Cellcommians. His intentions and objectives behind the simply-sincere reminder too were simple and clear. Ensure no future embarrassment to the concerned as well as correct the unintentional huge negligence happened in Cellcomm. It is relatively very difficult in todays’ world to think always straight & be simply-sincere. That is what Thomas is all about and probably makes him the best human being of all Cellcommians. The timing at which he reminded us the simple but very important forgotten fact (9 pm on SUN night) signifies his selfless simply-sincere approach. It was practically impractical to organize a deserving felicitation on such a short notice. On top of it, Thomas made it loud and clear to us that he does not want any sort of felicitation/reward so as to keep the intentions behind his reminder genuine. In fact such a request from a person like Thomas really had pushed all of us to a deserving corner. However, as all of you know by now, we could manage it on the T2 day just because, again, it was only ‘Thomas’. A brief but fitting tribute from Vijayan about his skills to read human minds, a last minute African style celebration from Linoj & team and valuable acknowledgments from all T2 participants etc. salvaged our pride on that day. The hard fact left out was that we all were literally struggling to clap 15 minutes continuously to match his 15 years hard work in Cellcomm. Finally, I think, the message saved the occasion. Message from Thomas was that he learned a lot from fellow Cellcommians citing interesting incidents and still learning. Yes; the life is all about learning and we all have to learn from others continuously. Experience is very handy in many occasions and it comes from learning but often very expensive. Learning from others makes it less expensive and affordable, especially when we learn from others’ mistakes. Hope, we will not forget to give him the deserving ‘title’ memento. davis. L3 Training & T2 meeting Selected employees have participated in the L3 technical training on 14-15th and T2 meeting on 16th December, conducted at Bangalore. Feedback from the L3 participants indicates that it was very much informative and useful. Thanks to Shibu, Vaithy and Naveen for handling it well, and all the participants who attended with keen interest throughout the session. Decisions taken at the Regional SBK discussions on 14th and 15th have been circulated among the concerned members. At the T2 meeting on 16th Dec, the celebration of the 15th Anniversary of Thomas as a cellcommian turned out to be a unique event. The role plays addressing the practical issues on our service front, were all well done and enjoyed by all. Employees who crossed 5 years and 10 years of service were felicitated during the function. The changes that were discussed for administering the regional activities and the reporting formats shall be put to practice immediately. This will be followed by similar approaches in all departments with an objective of having a refined ToM across the company starting from April, 2014 onwards. click here to view more L3 and T2 photos. MIAL Terminal 2 Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inaugurated Terminal 2 (T2) of the ChhatrapatiShivaji International Airport (CSIA) in Mumbai on 10 Jan 2014. He described it as “world-class” and an ideal example of a successful public-private partnership (PPP) model. “The terminal is expected to establish new global benchmarks of functional efficiency and operational safety for airports. It also exemplifies our ability as a nation to build world-class infrastructure. I have no doubt that this terminal will fulfil the expectations we have from it and make us all proud,” Dr. Singh said. The mega 11-acre roof of T2 is an engineering feat and has been embedded with special dichroic lenses that move with the direction of the sun. The roof is inspired by the dance of 1000 white peacocks. T2 comprises four levels and the size is 4.3 million square feet, with a passenger-handling capacity of 40 million per annum as compared to 36 million at T3 of the Delhi airport. The size of the check-in hall is nearly 400,000 square feet. It has 2,13,46 sqmetres of retail space, 53,000 sqft of landscaped garden with 80 different plant species. T2 has India’s biggest parking area, with a capacity to park 5,000 cars. The new terminal boasts India’s tallest airport escalator, which is 11.6 metres in height and serves from the 6th to the 10th level of the multi-level car park. The terminal’s transportation facilities also include 72 lifts, 48 escalators and 37 travelators. The T2 design combines international and domestic passenger services under one roof. Domestic operations will shift next year. The terminal has 188 check-in counters and around 6.4 km of conveyor belts for transporting baggage. The total length of the terminal’s external facade is 2.92 km. Reputed firms from 32 countries worked to build T2 which has access to natural sunlight during the day. When the entire country is applauding at the remarkable success of the Mumbai Airport Project, we as cellcommians can be proud of ourselves to be part of this great success. Indeed, our success at MIAL is a jewel to our cap and shall remain recognised as a historical achievement. Taking momentum from our success at DIAL by Suraj and team, everyone involved on the MIAL project excelled in their respective roles– Linoj with his overall leadership, Shibu with his technical brilliance, Anu with his customer management skills, Pius with his documentation capabilities, Jibu on the execution side, Sreekumar on health& safety and so on. The dedication, focus and effectiveness demonstrated by Mahesh in managing the challenges of this mega project require special appreciation. Last but not the least, the strong support role well handled by Naveen, Ajesh, Rinesh, Santhosh, Noble, Maneesh, Surender and all other team members of Western region was certainly a key factor behind this team success. Congratulations to all! Message from our CEO Success Stories Events @ Cellcomm Cellcommians
