In the Beginning… • The ancient Egyptians believed that the world was much different from what we know. In Egyptian religious beliefs, the forces of nature were seen as supernatural. They were not able to explain how things happened so they decided a god much have been responsible. The ancient gods and goddesses represented the many things the Egyptians has to deal with in their everyday lives.
My Egyptian God • My Egyptian god is named Anubis. He has the body of a man and the head of a jackal. He is the god of embalming and tombs.
Anubis • Anubis appeared with the body of a man and the head of a jackal. He is often shown carrying an ankh and staff. He is also pictured with a scale
The Jobs of Anubis • Anubis invented embalming to embalm Osiris, the first mummy. He was the guide of the dead. The ancient Egyptians believed that when you dies you traveled to the Hall of the Dead.
Anubis’ Jobs • At the Hall of the Dead, Anubis would weigh your heart against the feather of Ma’at. If your heart was heavier then the feather it was eaten by a demon. If it was “light” the person was judged to be fair and was given the feather.
