Pope Benedict XVI was warmly welcomed at World Youth Day with enthusiastic cheers. He urged the young people to embrace the Church's universality and be fueled by the fire of the Holy Spirit. The event featured prayer sessions, Eucharistic worship, and the opportunity to worship together. The Pope emphasized the importance of Christ's presence in the Eucharist and the role of the saints in guiding us towards happiness and true humanity. He highlighted the need to turn to the living God and embrace love in order to save the world.

Pope Benedict XVI was greeted tumultuously: “Be-ne-det-to”, “Be-ne-dic-to”, “Viva il Papa”!!!
The Holy Father responded to the joyous shouts of the young people with a calm and warm friendliness.

Prayer around the clock 20 churches had been transformed into Spiritual Centers, offering the opportunity to participate in the daily offices and in Eucharistic worship, allowing participants to live up to the motto of the XXth World Youth Day: “We have come to worship HIM”. Each Spiritual Center was directed by a different religious group: Two of them were under the care of the Missionaries of Charity.
