  2. Egg The mother butterfly lays a bunch of eggs on a leaf called a host plant.

  3. Larva The eggs hatch and larva come out. The larva eat on the host plant. It will grow bigger and bigger.

  4. Caterpillar Once the larva is bigger, we call it a caterpillar. They like to eat leaves and fruits. There are different types of caterpillars, just like there are different kinds of butterflies.

  5. Chrysalis When the caterpillar is ready, he gets into a J-shape and starts to make a chrysalis. It is a hard shell. It will protect the pupa while it forms into a butterfly. A moth’s hard shell is called a cocoon.

  6. Butterfly After weeks of preparing, the pupa comes out of the chrysalis as a beautiful butterfly!!
