AMBITIONS+ AIMS Ambitions+ aims to provide the opportunity for young people to… • Gain a valuable insight into different employment sectors • Learn through practical engaging activities • Get information and advice directly from employers, education and training providers • Find out about different progression pathways • Access careers advice and guidance • Make well-informed, ambitious and realistic decisions about the future

CONTEXT AMBITIONS+ • Pressure on school budgets • High levels of youth unemployment • Changes in higher education • School curriculum changes • Raising of the Participation Age • Reduced careers provision for young people • Loss of funded careers guidance in schools • Difficulty of accessing work experience • Increasingly complex career planning

CONTEXT AMBITIONS+ • Increasing opportunities for higher skilled work, fewer opportunities for unskilled work • Increasing emphasis on employability skills and relevant work experience • Work-based progression routes are an increasingly attractive choice for some young people, but becoming highly competitive

  7. CONTEXT AMBITIONS+ • Recent Ofsted report into careers provision in schools • Unrealistic or ill-informed career aspirations of some students • The vital role of employers’ involvement

  8. WHY BOTHER? AMBITIONS+ Because students have DIRECT CONTACTwith employers and HE… …something that they tell us they value highly and which can’t easily be achieved in other ways

  9. WHY BOTHER? AMBITIONS+ Because AMBITIONS+ is a key element of Post 16 careers programmes that can motivate students to make the most of their studies, raise their aspirations and help them make informed and realistic choices for the future

  10. WHY BOTHER? AMBITIONS+ Because we know it works • 83% of students thought that the AMBITIONS+ event had helped them to think more effectively about the future

  17. Meet the Students! This is Tom! Tom thinks he’s got it all sorted He knows exactly what he wants to do! He has worked out how to get there He is still looking around, but not with any real intent! Tom might not be as sorted as he thinks

  18. Meet the Students! This is Charlotte! Charlotte has been thinking things through for a while and has eliminated some professions She has strong ideas about what she doesn’t want to do, she has narrowed things down to a few careers but needs some support to fully understand her options

  19. Meet the Students! This is Abby! Abby is doing well in school, but might not excel in anything! She is eager to find out about a range of opportunities, but does not always know where to start and can be a little shy in coming forward

  20. Meet the Students! This is Ryan! Ryan has not got a clue! He has tried a little to figure it out, but he just gets stressed and is now burying his head in the sand! He can’t see himself doing anything, he has already been introduced to Ryan finds it difficult to come forward and ask for help

AMBITIONS+ • For contributors wanting to set up or check facilities in advance, access to the ECC is available between 15.00 and 18.00 on Friday 7 March • Entry to the site is via the NORTH GATE please park at the main ECC entrance • Access on Monday 10 March is from 07.30 • Please register as soon as you arrive and collect the Contributor Information Pack

AMBITIONS+ • Please display a UWE PARKING PERMIT in your vehicle at all times when on site - available to download in advance from the website… www.kingswoodpartnership.org.uk • Contributors should be aware that traffic in the vicinity of the Exhibition & Conference Centre North Entrance can become very congested at peak times - please allow plenty of time for your journey

  36. AMBITIONS+ • a screened, named and numbered area, 1.8m table, 2 chairs, access to mains power • for wireless internet access, please ask at the reception desk when you register on arrival

  37. AMBITIONS+ • Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided from 08.00 and throughout the course of the event and can be collected from the restaurant area • Each contributor space will be provided with bottled water and further supplies are available on reques
