  6. PIENAP • Location - on the border withPoland • Pieniny is Slovakia’s smallest national park • It covers an area of 3,750 ha with a protective zone covering 22,300 ha • It lies in the Prešov Region • The park was founded on 16 January 1967, and its borders were adjusted in 1997

  7. Fauna Lynx Honey buzzard • The fauna includesthelynx, otter, honeybuzzard, eagle-owl, pygmyowl and hazelgrouse Otter Trout

  10. CartusianMonastery = RedMonastery • Right in the centre of the village of ČervenýKláštor (thatofferstraditionalfolklore and architecture), is located a cultural monument established in thebeginning of the 14th century.

  15. National Park HIGH TATRAS • The Tatra Mountains, Tatras or Tatra (Tatry in both Polish and Slovak) forms a natural border between Slovakia and Poland. They occupy an area of 750 km² and the major part lies in Slovakia. The highest mountain is Gerlach at 2,655 m, located in Slovakia.

  16. National Park HIGH TATRAS • Climate: The Mountains lie in the temperate zone of Central Europe. They are an important barrier to the movements of air masses. Their topography causes the most diverse climate in that region. • Temperatures: Temperatures range from −40 °C in the winter to 33 °C in the warmest months.

  17. National Park HIGH TATRAS • Human involvement: On 19 November 2004, large parts of the forests in the southern part of the High Tatras were damaged by a strong wind storm.Further damage was done by a forest fire, and it will take many years until the local ecology is fully recovered.
