  2. Background Both were of Creole Descent. Bolivar helped gain Venezuela’s independence. Changed South American slavery drastically. Had a successful slave army. Ultimately kick-started Latin American Revolution.

  3. Peninsular War War between France and others(1808-14) The emergence of guerilla warfare. France fails to obtain Spain Spanish Administration weakened. Essentially left Latin America open

  4. Bolivar’s gaining of Support Devoted his life to philosophy. Wrote the Manifesto of Cartagena. Issued the Letter of Jamaica Conference of Angostura in Venezuela. Become president of Gran Colombia.

  5. San Martin’s Role Helped Spanish during the Peninsular War. Bolivar’s great military strategist Formed a powerful slave army. Defeated the Spaniards in Chile. Ended up leaving Latin America.

  6. Bolivar’s Gran Colombia Captured Peru and Northern Peru. Warfare erupts among his generals. Lost most of his supporters. Withdraws Political leadership. Died shortly after resignation.

  7. Disbandment of Gran Colombia Into Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador. Bolivia and Peru become disunited. Warfare grew in newly disbanded states. Private military forces gained power. Little significant Code of Laws.

  8. Religion and Economics Break control of Catholic Church. Limited church control. Ethnicity plays huge a role. Hacienda system in Latin America. Neo-Colonialism arises.
