T-Slot is made out of plastic, designed in CATIA and sent to a rapid prototyping 3D printer.
At low feed rates, the chips are gathered and pushed out. They have a tendency to bunch up and bind, however.
This binding induces stress on the T-Slot, which has the propensity to fail. Actually, this T-Slot failed because Steve pressed the rapid auto-feed button in the wrong axis, rendering the piece useless .
Conclusions • The T-Slot should be designed to withstand the forces of chips binding up. • Make it out of aluminum or brass? • (Nothing harder than track material) • With stronger materials [than the plastic], faster feed rates could be achieved.
