Current Events • In our Roads Department, we just finished up chip sealing approximately 6 miles of roadway in the Copper Region. • In the Timber Region we finished chip sealing approximately 4 miles of roadway.
West First Ave. & North Arbor Ave.Intersection Reconstruction • Intersection Reconstruction was necessary to alleviate problems with flooding during inclement weather. • Contract was awarded to Sullivan Paving Company, of Globe, with a contract amount of $96, 408.23. • Construction began on April 22, 2008, and was completed on May 13, 2008.
Fairgrounds EntranceGateway Enhancement Project • Design is now complete and bidding will close on June 9th • Construction is expected to begin in early July.
APWA Project of the Year • Gila County’s Wildfire Prevention Project is the recipient of APWA’s Project of the Year in the Disaster or Emergency Construction Repair category. The award will be presented on August 4th at the annual state convention. • According to APWA, officials in our county government are being given this honor for coming up with an innovative program with new approaches dealing with wildfire protection.
Project of the Year continued… • We purchased water dip tanks, pumpkins, and military bladders. These portable units were located in the Tonto National Forest for helicopters and emergency fire trucks to use. The were installed and filled by the county. The dip tanks hold about 5,000 gallons of water; bladders about 20,000. • Most recently, this project was selected as a winner in the 2008 National Acts of Caring Awards. The award recognized this project as one of the top county community improvement programs in the country.
Upcoming Projects Static GPS Observations • Will be taking place in Tonto Basin with the addition of 13 new survey monuments through the area for eventual publication by the NGS (National Geodetic Survey).
Upcoming Projects for Construction Russell Gulch Landfill Expansion • Estimated cost is about $2 million; expected to begin work in 2009. Russell Road/Hospital Drive Realignment • Plans are at 90% complete. • Expected to go out to bid later this year. Old SR 88 Drainage Improvements • Roadway drainage improvement construction to start end of June at Murray Wash. Fossil Creek Road, Phase II • Plans are 100% complete. • Expected to go out to bid late summer.
Upcoming Projects for Design • ADOT Transportation Enhancement project. • We will be completing the sidewalks. • Going out to design soon; contact us if you are interested.
