SES Goals • Summersville Elementary‘s core beliefs are that our students can be successful in life through the collective efforts of our students, staff, parents and families, and the community. • We will continue to foster student achievement by providing higher order thinking questions and activities in all classrooms. • We will integrate technology to enhance and allow students to interact with the lessons. • We will continue to support and encourage community involvement during and after school. Title I • Individual reading screening for students • Small group reading and math intervention and support for students • After-school and summer programming for students • Professional development opportunities for staff • Parent involvement and family engagement opportunities • Increased materials/technology equipment and support • Take home materials and activities for students and their families
School Day 7:50 AM to 2:30 PM • Perfect Attendance ~ In the classroom ready to work by 7:50 AM and remain at school until 2:30 PM • After 7:50 AM a parent must escort the student to the office to sign in the student. • When a student has been absent from school for a full day, any part of the day, or has been signed out, the student must bring a written signed note from their parent or a physician’s statement upon returning to school. • Failure to bring the proper documentation for absences will result in that absence being recorded as unexcused. Drop Off & Pick-Up • Cafeteria Doors are unlocked at 7 AM and locked at 7:50 AM • Use the right lane in front of the school. Drive to the end of the sidewalk and let your child out of the vehicle. • If you want to escort your child to the cafeteria door, use the outside lane in front of the school, drive to the circle at the end of the parking lot, and park your vehicle in the provided spaces. This will allow you and your child to walk to the doors without crossing traffic. • Arrive before 7:45 AM to avoid the Pre-K Bus • Parents are asked to remain in their vehicles and students will be dismissed from the school. • Kindergarten and 1st grade students will be dismissed at the Pre-K doors (near the cafeteria). • 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade students will be dismissed at the double doors on the 4th – 5th grade wing. • Parents must enter the pick-up lane by the Nicholas County Senior Building • Do Not start the pick-up lane until at least 2:25 PM Students' success in life begins at SES.
Bus Procedures • Students are to ride their assigned buses to and from school. • If a student must ride a different bus, you must send a bus to school with the student. • Arrangements should be made prior to the beginning of the school day. • Students in grades K-3 must be met at the evening bus stop by a parent or responsible adult who is listed on the green emergency card. Green Card • All students MUST have emergency procedure card signed by the parent and on file in the office. • Please notify the office staff immediately of address and phone number changes as well as adults authorized to sign your child out from school. • Only those listed on the green card will be able to pick up your child. • Please make those aware on the card that Photo ID may be checked when picking up a child. Medication • SES Staff cannot administer medication without a doctor's approved medical form. • Medicine must be provided in the original bottle. • Parents must bring the medication to the office to be signed into the system. Students' success in life begins at SES.
Closed Campus & Volunteering • To insure the safety of students and staff, all visitors will be required to enter at the main entrance. • Please ring the bell and wait for admittance from the SES staff. Your photo ID maybe required. • Visitors are required to sign in with the school secretary and obtain a visitor’s pass to visit any area of the school. • Please Do Not open the doors for anyone. • Volunteer Training is required to volunteer in a classroom for crafts, activities, holiday/fun days, small groups, classroom reading, field trips, etc. • Any Volunteer Training provided by any Nicholas County School can be taken to become approved. • We LOVE our Volunteers!!! Breakfast & Lunch Free Breakfast & Lunch • Hot Breakfast is served from 7:00 AM to 7:30 AM • Grab-N-Go begins at 7:35 AM • When packing your child’s lunch please check food labels and inform your child or put a note on the lunch box if products containing peanuts, peanut butter, or food processed with nuts are in your child’s lunch.
