Gender Caucus Feedback- Recommendations - 4th Annual PHT Regional Workshop Presenters: Naomi Navoce and Evans Tuhagenga
PHT Participation: • Ensure equal representation of regional and international, male and female, facilitators to PHT events • Pro-actively ensure women’s representation Gender skill-building • Take the IASC gender in emergencies e-course www.oneresponse.info/gender
NDMOs and CLUSTERS Develop a gender gap analysis with partners, then integrate into each cluster action plan: • Building capacity at regional and national levels to mainstream gender • Advocating, through their DRM networks, for equal participation of men and women at community level • Identifying existing training and resources on gender • Adopting relevant gender checklists • Building capacity in NDMO and cluster partners to use the Gender Marker • Sharing gender tools, analysis and information
NDMOs and CLUSTERS (2) • Pro-actively engaging civil society, including faith-based organizations, in cluster activities • Ensuring that all relevant women’s organizations (government and non-government) are informed and consulted in DRM activities at the national and local levels • Encouraging institutions/organizations active in DRM ensure gender sensitization (e.g. secondments, surge capacity, intra-island exchange) • Ensuring preparedness includes baseline data disaggregated by sex and age • Ensuring NDMO and each cluster has focal points to mainstream gender and protection
INTER- CLUSTER • Collectively develop culturally adapted and relevant humanitarian messages using a gender lens i.e. UNICEF brochure • Develop a strategy for addressing gender-sensitive psycho-social /mental health needs
SIMULATION • Next simulation to have clusters in place so gender in cluster coordination can be better explored • Gender and protection issues need more players: not total dependency on Mothers and Daughters for response (e.g. Ministry of Gender, UN Women, UNFPA, Crisis Centers) • Roles should identify both male and female gender champions • Insert more diversity issues e.g. gender challenges of people with disabilities
