Response To Instruction A Renewed Commitment to Excellence
Food for Thought • “ . . . the focus of schooling has shifted from teaching to learning - to the skills and knowledge students must master, rather than the skills and knowledge teachers must teach. This is not a rhetorical difference. It turns education on its head as the focus shifts from assuring common processes for all schools to assuring outcomes for all students.”-Arthur LevineEducating Teachers (2008)
Definition of RTI • RTI is the practice of: • 1) Providing high-quality instruction or intervention matched to student needs. • 2) Using learning rate over time and level of performance to: • 3) Make important educational decisions.
Our vision for RTI is that all students can achieve with the right supports. We will work together as a whole school to create a systematic framework of providing high quality instruction and intervention matched to student needs. We will use scientific research-based programs and valid reliable assessments. Ongoing professional development and leadership will be provided to ensure the success of our students. MES Mission Statement
RTI integrates assessment and intervention within a school-wide, multi-level prevention system to maximize student achievement and reduce behavior problems. • With RTI, schools identify students at risk for poor learning outcomes, monitor student progress, provide evidence-based interventions, and adjust the intensity and nature of those interventions based on a student’s responsiveness. • RTI may be used as part of the determination process for identifying students with specific learning disabilities or other disabilities. Defining RTI
RTI as a Preventive Framework • RTI is a multi-level instructional framework aimed at improving outcomes for all students. • RTI provides immediate support to students who are at risk for poor learning outcomes.
