Why We Focused on College Students: 25% of young adults between 18 and 24 are suffering from a mental illness that could be diagnosable 25% of college students have been diagnosed or treated within the past year for some sort of mental illness “More than 80 percent of college students felt overwhelmed by all they had to do in the past year and 45 percent have felt things were hopeless”
Why Don’t College Students Ask For Help? The stigma that comes along with asking for help or going to get some kind of mental health treatment They do not know where to turn to for help They are not aware of how serious their mental health issue really is

Mental Health Status Improvement Reduce the suicide rate Reduce suicide attempts by adolescents Reduce the proportion of adolescents who engage in disordered eating behaviors in an attempt to control their weight Reduce the proportion of persons who experience major depressive episodes (MDEs)
Treatment Expansion Increase the proportion of primary care facilities that provide mental health treatment onsite or by paid referral Increase the proportion of children with mental health problems who receive treatment Increase the proportion of juvenile residential facilities that screen admissions for mental health problems Increase the proportion of persons with serious mental illness (SMI) who are employed

We are seeing increasing numbers of college students suffer from some kind of mental health issues The objectives could apply to the college population College students are in need of having more treatment options Following the HealthyPeople 20/20 standards for Mental Health and Mental Disorders could help benefit the overall college student population
