Slides • keep slides simple • legibility - “rule of sixes” • make text as large as possible; avoid line over-runs • don’t plan to write on slide during talk • don’t use photocopied pages from reports Project Presentations
Slides - “rule of sixes” • letter size 6% of slide base length • letter height 6 x its width • content: 6 x 2 (=12!) items of information • about six slides in a short presentation • visibility: slides should be legible from six times their diagonal dimension Project Presentations
Write notes about each slide Rehearse keep it simple aim to use slide itself as your notes on the day get timing right (+20%) make changes fix slide cues in mind Preparing for talk Project Presentations
Getting started • check equipment beforehand • make sure things like felt pens are there • make sure audience can see and hear • put your watch where you can see it Project Presentations
Delivery • always face audience • speak up; don’t read from notes • plan silences (esp. after new slide) • control gesticulations and mannerisms • vary the technique e.g. models, samples, video clips • don’t switch o.h.p. on and off • don’t ‘hide’ parts of slide Project Presentations
Summary • keep things simple • start with clear aims for talk • show evidence of rehearsal • prepare good media • maintain eye contact with audience • end with clear summary • finish on time Project Presentations
