Step-by-Step Intervention Plan Intervene immediately. Talk to the bully and talk to the victim separately. Don’t necessarily send the pair to any Peer Mediation program. Check written policies for your school on how to proceed.
Step-by-Step Intervention Plan Expect denial/minimization by the bully. Codes of conduct & Sanctions Reassure the victim Inform all parents as soon as possible Early parental involvement may improve behavior more readily Involve parents in creating an action plan
Step-by-Step Intervention Plan For victims, get them involved in activities in which they can improve their social skills and confidence. For bullies, re-education is needed as are sanctions such as removal of privileges, detention, etc. Follow up with parents, teachers, admin Monitor the behavior of the bully & safety of the victim

Monitor the behavior of the bully & safety of the victim If the bully’s behavior continues to be a threat to the wellbeing of other students, he should be the one removed from the class or school – not the victim.
Useful questions to ask bullies: What did you do? Why was that a bad thing to do? Who did you hurt? What were you trying to accomplish? Next time you have that goal, how will you meet it without hurting anybody?
Bullies need to learn to: • Acknowledge their own actions & the results on • themselves • others • Develop shame • Change their actions to stay out of trouble • Find other ways to get their needs met • Develop guilt ("I hurt someone") • Learn to trust and delay gratification • Form relationships with helping adults
