Post in Perspective A lesson in Foreshortening Materials: paper, pencil, eraser, ruler
Step 1: Draw a horizon line in the center of the page. Step 2: Place a dot near the center of the line and draw a road going back to the dot.
Step 3: Draw a post. The post should begin near the bottom of the page and end about an inch from the top. Step 4: Draw a faint guide line from the top of the post to the vanishing point. This will be the ending point for all other post.
Step 5: Draw a second post. Be careful not to place it too close to the first. Space it about ½ inch from the first.
Step 6: Next you are going to find the center of the two post. To do this you will draw a line from the bottom of post one to the top of post two and a line from the bottom of post two the to the top of post one. The point where the lines intersect is your center point.
Step 7: Draw a faint guide line from the center point (you just found) to the vanishing point.
Step 8: Using your ruler line up the bottom of post one with the center of post two. The point where the ruler crosses the guideline (drawn from the top of post 1 to the vanishing point) is where you will place the third post.
Step 9: Repeat Procedure to finish drawing post. You should have at least 6 post.
Step 10: To draw post on opposite side. Draw a line (horizontal to the horizon line) from the bottom of the post, across the road, to approximately the same sport on the opposite side of the road.
Step 11: Draw a guideline from the vanishing point to the top of the post. This line will indicate where your post stop.
Step 12: Repeat and draw a (mirror image post) for each post already drawn.
