You want to get better performance out of your runs, so what do you do?
Obviously, you run more! Because practice makes perfect, right?
Well... it's not so simple.
Your performance is tied to the condition of your cardiovascular system. In order to make it stronger, you must train to exceed its limits.
While long runs and tempo runs can have positive effects, strength training can also put healthy stress on our cardiovascular system to make it stronger.
In order to really make the most of your strength training, you should keep a few things in mind.
Decrease rest time between sets. Call on your body to do more in a shorter period of time!
Lift relatively quickly. A higher intensity benefits your metabolism as well as your stamina.
Work with free weights. They can be intimidating, but machines actually assist your lift... which can make your form sloppy.
The most effective exercises are compound lifts like squats and deadlifts.
