Why is it important? • Maintains structural integrity of the essay • Doesn’t leave quotes just floating without context about it. • So reader is aware of why the quote is there
What are the different ways we can weave? • Start the sentence with who said the quote • Introduce the quote with a complete sentence and a colon (:) • Use a frame (intro, ending) phrase, but not a complete sentence, seperated by a comma (,)
Good Examples • Thoreau ends his essay with a metaphor: “Time is but the stream I go a-fishing in. • According to Thoreau, “We do not ride on the railroad; it rides upon us.”
Bad Examples Floating Quotes • Dogs are considered mans best friend. “Brett likes dogs.”
Activity • Scan your paper for any quotes you may have used for information or evidence • Make sure they are woven correctly • Then try to vary the way you present each quote
