  2. What are we asking God to do when we pray the Seventh Petition?

  3. What is evil? Genesis 3:16-19,23 To the woman he said, “I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat of it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.” So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken.   8. Key Point #1 Evil is all the hardships we experience in life as a result of sin’s ruining this world.

  9. What are we asking God to do about the evil that threatens us? Psalm 91:9-10 If you make the Most High your dwelling— even the Lord, who is my refuge— then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. keep evil away

  10. What are we asking God to do about the evil that threatens us? Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. use it for our good

What are we asking God to do about the evil that threatens us? 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. help us bear it

  12. Key Point #2 We ask that God would keep evil from us, or if he permits it to come, that he would use it for our good and would help us bear it.

  13. What are we asking God to do in the future about the evil that threatens us? Acts 7:59-60 While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.

Revelation 21:3-4 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” deliver us from evil completely in heaven

  15. Key Point #3 We ask that God would deliver us completely from evil in heaven.

  16. Agree or Disagree? When we get sick or have other troubles, God is punishing us for our sins.

  17. Give an example from the Bible how God kept evil away from a believer. Give an example how God permitted evil to come but used it for a believer’s good.

  18. Explain… Why would you NOT like to die today? Why would it be good if you died today?

  19. What do you think is the greatest evil that could ever happen to someone? Explain your answer.

  20. In some churches, instead of praying “Deliver us from evil,” the people pray “Deliver us from the evil one.” Both are possible translations, but which one do you prefer? Why?

  21. Agree or Disagree? Adults are more afraid of death than young people.

  22. Agree or Disagree? It would be better to die suddenly than to spend years in sickness and pain and weakness before finally dying.

  23. When Tony’s dad was hospitalized with cancer, Tony thought that God was not answering his family’s prayers to deliver them from evil. How would you respond?
