SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES LESSON 663: DIVINE HEALTH AND HEALING
LESSON 663: DIVINE HEALTH AND HEALING • MEMORY VERSE: “That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities and bare our sicknesses” (Matthew 8: 17). • TEXT: Matthew 8:1: 17 ; Exodus 15:26 ; 1 Peter 2:24 ; 3 John 2
SUMMARY (1) The previous study focused on Serving one another in love: • Christian love that is pure, sincere, unconditional and impartial should be the basis of our Christian service. • Our love should be fervent, not passive. It should be expressed in actions of affection, kindness and empathy. • Believers should not be slothful in their daily private pursuit and in ministry. • It is our responsibilty as the body of Christ to give to brethren. • Obedience to God by giving sacrificially brings blessings. • The study of today touches on three points: • Records of healing in the scripures • Healing: The children’s bread • God’s healing power available by faith
SUMMARY (2) • Records of healing in the scriptures (2 Kings 5:1-14 ; 1 Sam. 1:9-20; Acts 10:38): • Healing and obedience to God are inseparable. • There was healing in both testaments by judges, prophets, Jesus and the apostles. • Healing: The children’s bread (Matthew 15:21-28): • Divine healing is available to us through Christ’s sacrifice. We should ask for it! • Believers should also pray for the sick and they shall be healed (Mark 16:17,18). • Divine healing does not cancel legitimate (non-demonic) medical treatment. • Believers should obey God and observe rules of hygiene and proper nutrition. • God’s healing power available by faith (Matthew 7:7; Hebrews 11:6): • God is able and willing to heal those who are sick. He is ‘The Lord our Healer’. • We need to believe God for healing: “The prayer of faith shall save the sick”.
QUESTION 1 How do you prove that healing and health are integral parts of God’s covenant with his people? • Exodus 15:26 • Exodus 23:25,26 • Deuteronomy 7:12-15
QUESTION 2 How does the brazen serpent typify the Lord Jesus Christ? • Numbers 21:4-9 • John 3:14
QUESTION 3 What are the believers responsibilities towards enjoying continuous divine health today?
QUESTION 4 What is the connection between Christ’s sacrifice and the believer’s healing and health? • 1 Peter 2:24 • Galatians 3:13a
QUESTION 5 What is the place of God’s Word, power and will in our healing today? • Romans 1:16 • Psalms 107:20 • Luke 9:1 • Luke 10:19-21 • 3 John 2 • Matthew 6:10 • Deuteronomy 7:15
QUESTION 6 Which of God’s redemptive names signify that He is our great physician? • Exodus 15:26 • Isaiah 53:4,5
CONCLUSION • Healing and health are parts of God’s covenant with His children. • Sickness came as a result of the curse of the law for disobedience but Jesus has redeemed us from the curse by being made a curse for us. • Faith is central to healing just like it is to receiving all divine blessings; studying and meditating on the Word of God increases our faith in God. • Believers should obey rules of hygiene, healthy eating and healthy living. • God has the power and the willingness to heal those who are sick. • Divine healing does not cancel medical care; God remains our Healer!
