  2. Things you will need are: • Phillips head screw driver • This lesson will show you how to completely replace your computer’s casing.

  3. Starting • Turn off your computer, and unplug it. • Disconnect all of the cables in the back, do this carefully, some need special unlocks.

  4. Opening • Open the case. • To do this: If necessary, remove any screws in the case itself, and find little tabs that will pop off and let you slide a panel off. • Place any screws you had to remove in a container so you don’t lose them.

  5. Disconnecting • Disconnect the power supply connector from the motherboard and each of the components. • Disconnect the lead to the on/off switch(follow the chords from your power button to find this switch). • Disconnect any connections that are made to the motherboard. Do this carefully, some have special locking.

  6. Disconnecting Cont. • Take note of what the chords you are disconnecting belong to, as this could mess you up during reassembly. • Remove all of the screws to the motherboard, in most cases you may be able to remove the motherboard while leaving all the attached cards in place. • You can remove the motherboard after all of the screws are taken out.

  7. Installing in New Case • You may now put the motherboard into the new case. To do this, find the screw holes and measure them up with your motherboard, then screw it into place. • Take the drives out the old case, and install them into the new one. To do so, place the drives in the same relative location they were in with the last case. *You will need to screw them in exactly how they were before you unscrewed them.

  8. Installing Cont. • Attach all of the drives to the motherboard, and make sure everything is in the same slot as they were when you first removed them. • Now is when you install the power supply. • Place it into the correct spots in the case and connect it to the motherboard.

  9. Wiring • You don’t want clutter filling up your new case, so if at all possible, move the wires out of the way of other drives, motherboard and anything else attached to the motherboard. • This also helps over heating issues, and no one likes those.

  10. Proofing • This is where you should check and make sure everything you disconnected, is no installed in the new casing. • If any other drives aren’t inside the PC you will want to go back, and figure out what you missed, and unmiss them. • Also, if you have any screws leftover you should search for anything loose or not properly screwed in, this could cause future problems.
