Elementary Research TeamPurpose • Explore possible grade configurations of JK / K – 4th grade with the following priorities • Educationally Sound • Fiscally Responsible • Develop a district vision for elementary education for Brighton Area Schools and a plan to implement this vision.

Possible Configurations for Brighton Area Schools Option A: Students begin their educational careers in a K-4 building, then progress to a 5-6 building, and then to a 7-8 building. Option B: Students begin their educational careers at Miller Early Childhood Center, then progress to a 1-4 building, then to a 5-6 building, and then to a 7-8 building. Option C: Students begin their educational careers in a K-2 building, progress to a 3-4 building, then to a 5-6 building, and then to a 7-8 building.

How satisfied are you with the overall customer service provided by the Brighton Area Schools?
How would you rate the quality of the educational program(s) of the Brighton Area Schools? There is much improvement needed to get BAS where we want to be.
What Programs and / or services would you like to see added and / or changed to the Brighton Area School District? • There were over 600 parent responses to this question. • The responses were sorted into comments specific to each level (Kindergarten, Elementary, Middle School and High School). • Within each level, the comments were organized into the following categories: • Curriculum • Resources • Extra-curricular activities • Miscellaneous • Comments pertaining to overall district matters were also organized into a summary report.
Question 19: The Brighton Area Schools is reviewing ways to utilize our elementary buildings and Miller Early Childhood Center more efficiently. There are three options being researched. Option A: Students begin their educational careers in a K-4 building, then progress to a 5-6 building, and then to a 7-8 building. Option B: Students begin their educational careers at Miller Early Childhood Center, then progress to a 1-4 building, then to a 5-6 building, and then to a 7-8 building. Option C: Students begin their educational careers in a K-2 building, progress to a 3-4 building, then to a 5-6 building, and then to a 7-8 building. In all three of the above options one building will be closed/reutilized and redistricting of students will occur. It has not yet been determined which building will be closed/reutilized. Please indicate below how you would rank the above three options. 1 = your first choice 2 = your second choice 3 = your third choice

A Parent Comment received from the Survey “I think the BAS needs to provide a long term plan to parents and community members. I know the economy is dictating cuts but I hope that the leaders of this school system will take a look at the long term effects of closing buildings and cutting programs.”
