Reason for Project Virgin concrete hauled into the landfill cost $24.00 per ton. It cost Pasquotank County approximately $6.50 to $8.50 per ton to have concrete processed on site.
Past five years • Pasquotank County recently began to stockpile and grind clean concrete • Previously the material was buried on the C&D landfill • To date 19,321 tons of material has been collected and all except what is now on the ground has been grinded and used • There is about 1,900 tons of material on site that will be grinded by next summer • Comparing what it would cost to process 19,000 tons of concrete at $24.00 per ton ($456,000) to what it cost ($8.50 per ton) to have it grinded ($161,500) we saved $294,500 and was able to use the product in various applications
