NW 16th Avenue / NW 23rd Avenue RECOMMENDATION • Direct staff to proceed with the development of the 30% plans including the following design elements • Widen sidewalks to up to 10 feet wherever possible • Restripe travel lanes to 11 feet. Utilize raised audible thermoplastic on the outside white line. • Leave existing typical median widths unchanged
NW 16th Avenue / NW 23rd Avenue COMMUNITY WORKSHOP • Held on December 15, 2010 at Littlewood Elementary School • A total of 145 citizens signed in at the meeting PUBLIC COMMENTS A total of 44 comment forms were received and 42 individuals made verbal comments at the meeting. This resulted in 191 independent comments.
NW 16th Avenue / NW 23rd Avenue GENERAL PUBLIC CONSENSUS • Widen the sidewalks • Make the corridor feel safer for users, especially pedestrians • Do not narrow the medians • Be fiscally responsible
NW 16th Avenue / NW 23rd Avenue RECOMMENDED OPTION Option #2: Widen sidewalks Fill 2.5’ wide utility strips with concrete to create a 7.5’ wide sidewalk and widen the sidewalk to the outside wherever possible. The widened sidewalk will function more as a multi-use path.

HDR Engineering Gainesville NW 16th Avenue / NW 23rd Avenue RECOMMENDED OPTION Option #1: Narrow vehicle lanes to create additional space between vehicles and pedestrians Restripe all lanes to 11’ width, creating a 3½-foot space between the travel lane and the face of the curb. Include audible thermoplastic for outside white line.
