Human Sexuality Final Project Justin Stoddard FHS 2450 Professor Carey
Theme and Concepts I have chosen as my final project to take 3 of the movies discussed in feature films and talk about how the theme and concepts relates to our human sexuality class. I will also talk about some of the things these movies have in common and also some of the main differences.
Dan In Real Life Dan In Real Life is a story about a newspaper columnist adviser named Dan Burn who is at a low point in his life. He is a single father trying to raise daughters at the same time coping with the loss of his wife. He decides to take a trip with his family to Rhode Island to visit his parents, and on this trip is when Dan’s life gets a little more crazy.
Dan In Real Life Theme I think that there are many different themes throughout this movie, such as listening to your own advice, and also at the same time to keep some relationships you may have to lose others. The one that stuck out to me was that you have to follow your heart and do what is best for you sometimes, even though there may be differenct obstacles, you need to do what will make you happy.

American Pie American Pie is a film about a group of high school friends and their last days together at high school. It focuses on a group of 4 guys, Jim, Oz, Finch, and Kevin that all make a pact that they will lose their virginity by prom night. The title of the movie comes from Jim being caught masturbating with an apple pie.
American Pie Theme The theme in American Pie is that sometimes what you think you want and what your friends want for you, maybe is not necessarily what you want. They all think that they just want sex and to lose their virginity, when in reality many of them find out that they want a relationship, they want companionship, and they become great friends through each of their tough times achieving their goal.

Brokeback Mountain Brokeback Mountain is the story of a forbidden and secret relationship between two cowboys. Ennis and Jack meet in the summer of 1963 sheepherding together in Wyoming and build a bond and relationship together.
Brokeback Mountain Theme The main theme to me was the reality of desire and passion and love. These 2 men could not fight or deny the passion and desire that they had for each other. Even though at that day and age it was wrong and looked down upon. Jack and Ennis had everything to lose from their relationship, other homosexual cowboys had been murdered and punished.
Brokeback Mountain Concepts Relationships Homosexuality Romance Masculinity Secrets
What they have in common I think the there are 2 main things that each of these films have in common. First, they each are based on relationships. The crazy part about these movies is that relationship isn’t really what each of them was trying to find, but in the end, they all find and enjoy companionship and relationship. Second, one of the main subjects is something that is looked down upon or something that is taboo. In Dan in Real Life it is a relationship with your brothers date, in American Pie it is masturbation, and in Brokeback Mountain it is homosexuality.
