Cherokee bat and the Goat Guys Francesca Lia block 1992 fiction Ashley okolovitch
SETTING • The canyons, lined with palm trees, hibiscus, bougainvillea and a row of candles lit for the two old ladies. The two old ladies had been killed by a hit–and-run, at the Hollywood sign. • The setting is important because it sets the tone for the reader. It lets the reader know what to except. • The book would have started off happier if the setting was different(two old ladies hit and run).
CONFLICT The main conflict is when Witch Baby is stuck in the shed. Cherokee try's to get Witch Baby out ,but it doesn’t work. Then Cherokee calls Raphael to help. Raphael plays the drums to get Witch Baby out of the shed. It works, Witch Baby is out of the shed. Cherokee is happy that Witch Baby is out of the shed, so Cherokee gives Raphael a hug. The type of conflict is man vs. man.
SUMMARY OF PLOT Cherokee has to watch Witch Baby. Witch Baby gets stuck in the shed, so Cherokee try’s to get Witch Baby out. Cherokee can’t get Witch Baby out of the shed so, Cherokee calls Raphael to help. Raphael gets Witch Baby out of the shed. Now Witch Baby has a band called the Goat Guys. Witch Baby goes into Coyote shed and steals a helmet with horns on it, for Angle Juan. Cherokee try’s to get the horns back from Angle Juan. When Cherokee try’s, Angle Juan gets hurt.
THEME The theme is coming of age. • Cherokee, Witch Baby, Raphael, and Angle Juan were more involved with the band than they were about passing school. Page ( 45 ) • Cherokee learned responsibility when she had to figure out how to get Witch Baby out of the shed. Page (25 ) • Cherokee learned to be unselfish as she took care of Witch baby. POINT OF VIEW Francesca Lia Block wrote the book in second person. She did not say “I” all the time in the book. She is entertaining you. She tried to entertain you by saying that Witch Baby can’t get out of the shed. She wanted us to keep on reading to fine out if Witch Baby would come out of the shed.
SYMBOLISM HAPPY Because after they get Witch Baby out of the shed they have a band called the Goat Guys.
RECOMMENDATION I would not recommend Cherokee bat and the Goat Guys because it was not interesting. The cover look good to read, but it was not good at all. That is my recommend about this book.
