Classroom Procedures Mrs. Stockton 6th Grade Harvey Elementary
Transitions • When leaving the classroom, make sure to push your chair in and grab all materials you need • Walk quietly to your destination and keep hands and feet to yourself • Enter the classroom quietly and wait for directions If you don’t follow these directions, you will change your card
Welcome • Welcome to a new school year! • I am here to teach; you are here to learn. I will do my job; you will do yours and we will work together to use this year beneficially. • Positive attitude is the key of success!
Classroom Rules • Follow directions! • Treat everyone with kindness and respect( this means no teasing or name-calling) • Come to class prepared and ready to work. • Always do your own work. • Keep hands, feet, objects to yourself
Entering the Classroom • Be on time! • Bring all materials to class • Enter the classroom quietly. • Turn in any homework • Go directly to your assigned seat • Fill out agenda • Start warm-up if required. • Get ready to begin class.
During instruction • Listen to the teacher with your full attention. • No pencil sharpening, getting out of your seat, or talking during instruction. • Raise your hand to answer or ask questions. • After the instruction, make sure that you understand the concept. If not, ask questions mentioning which part you do not understand.
While you are Working • Make sure you read or listen to the instructions the first time they are given. • If you do not understand, ask for help from other students around you. If they do not understand, ask the teacher for help. • If you are asked for help, be polite and offer your best. • Talking to each other should be no louder than a whisper. The person on the other side of the room should not be able to hear you. • Respect for each other, the teacher and the equipment are necessary! • Use your time wisely and don’t cheat!
What if I am Done? • Check your work and the directions one more time to see if you missed anything or did something incorrectly. • If the assignment is to be turned in do so. • Quietly work on other homework (like spelling packet) • Read quietly at your seat • File papers in mailboxes • Ask me for anything you can do to help
Cooperative Learning • Often working with a group can be more difficult than working alone. • Always work with your assigned group. • Always ask your group for help if you have a question before asking the teacher. • Contribute to the group and don’t be lazy and let others do your work. • Try to resolve problems within your group before getting teachers involved. • You are responsible for your own work!
Bathroom Passes • Try to wait until after instruction until using the restroom so you don’t miss important info • Ask permission to use the bathroom and bring the pass with you
When you are Absent • It is your job to find out what you missed • Copy the class agenda so you know exactly what we did • Get any worksheets you need from the “Extras” basket • If you missed a test please see me to arrange a time to make up the test before school so you can take it without distractions • You get 2 days to make up each absent day. • Try not to be absent! It ends up being more work for you! And we will miss you
Late/Missing Work • If you do not turn in an assignment, you will complete it at recess and lose 10 percent of the grade each day it is late • I only accept late work 2 days after it was due • You will receive 2 late passes to use each quarter!
Grading Scale: • 93%-100% A 73%-76% C • 90%-92% A- 70%-72% C- • 87%-89% B+ 67%-69% D+ • 83%-86% B 63%-66% D • 80%-82% B- 60%-62% D- • 77%-79% C+ 59% and below F • Grades will be weighted for each subject
Consequences for misbehaviorIt is important to follow the rules and act appropriately so you can be safe and successful in the classroom! You have a clean slate every day in here. If rules are broken, this is the plan I follow: • Verbal warning or look • Change card to yellow as a 2nd warning • Change card to orange and miss 2nd recess • Change card to red and get a call home to parents 5. A referral will be written for severe behavior such as name-calling, fighting, swearing and you will be sent to see Mr. Russo As a class, you can lose minutes from recess or get additional assignments for not following directions from the teacher. (this includes all specials too!)
Teacher Assistant • Every student in class will get a chance to be the TA for the school day • They are responsible for passing out papers, filing graded work, filling out class agenda, cleaning up the floor at end of day, office trips, and any other errands • The TA of the day can read in the reading corner and choose a friend during silent reading time
Classroom Rewards • PBS tickets • Extra recess time • Candy/treats for good behavior • Socializing time at end of day 6th Grade Fun! • Camp Tamarack • Career Luncheon • Graduation • Book buddies
Dismissal • Make sure your work area is clean-nothing on or under your desk • You will wait for your teacher to dismiss you. • THE BELL DOES NOT DISMISS YOU! • Stack your chair and stand by your desk until you are dismissed
Reminders… • Remember you are in control of your own learning! • Set a good example as the 6th grade class to the rest of the school • Check out my website for updates: http://www.stockton6thgrade.weebly.com Looking forward to a fun, successful school year! ~Mrs. Stockton
