Chapter 23. Bob Ewell’s threats are worrisome to everyone except Atticus. Tom Robinson has been sent to another prison 70 miles away. Atticus holds out hope for an appeal. Jem reveals he’s getting…chest hair and that he’s going out for the football team next year . Good for you Jem ! .

Chapter 24 • Scout wears a dress and helps Calpurnia and Aunt Alexandria with tea for her missionary circle. • Tom Robinson attempted to escape jail and was shot seventeen times.
Chapter 25 • Scout goes to mash a roly poly bug and Jem stops her. That bug didn’t do anything to harm her! :/ It’s innocent! Theme? • Scout is beginning to think that Jem is acting more like a girl. Characterization? • Scout and Jem go with Atticus to tell Helen that Tom is dead; she collapses. • Bob Ewell is overhead saying, “one down and about two more to go.” Hmmmm.
Chapter 26 • School starts and Jem and Scout pass by the Radley place everyday. They are now too old to be afraid of it. (Character analysis anyone?) • Scout still wants to see Boo…just once! • Miss Gates preaches about the wickedness of Hitler, yet she was found outside the courtroom saying, “It’s about time that someone taught the blacks…a lesson.” Hypocrite!
Chapter 27 • Bob Ewell begins following Helen Robinson to work, keeping his distance but whispering obscenities to her. Creep! • The town sponsors a party and play at the school. This is to keep people out of trouble because last Halloween…. • The play is an “agricultural pageant”. Every child portrays a food, Scout wears a wire mesh shaped to look like a ham.
