Technical Work • Digital Analysis of Dental X-Ray Images • Focus on Periodontitis disease • Extraction of the tooth contours • Microarray Information Database • MIND • GTI-GPX collaboration • Integration of genetic and medical information • DiseaseCard
Digital Analysis of Dental X-Ray • Collaborations • ACTA (NL) • Main goal: • To evaluate the performance of the image analysis methods for extracting morphologic data, from dental x-ray images; • To implement a friendly interface for the proposed methodologies; • Previous work: • Image Pre-processing; • Extraction of the tooth contours; • Visualization of tooth properties;
Developed Work (update) • New software prototype • DIA (Dental Images Analyser) • Statistical study for DIA assessment • New database model • Future work • Study new algorithms to segment dental x-ray images • Integrate the developed algorithms in MATLAB, in a monolithic application (based on .NET, C#)
Microarray LIMS • Collaborations • ISCIII (SP) • Guillermo Lopez (Sep 2005) • MIND - MicroArray Information Database • Web-based, public system • MIAME/MAGE compliant • http://mind.ieeta.pt/ • Currently at (early DRAFT) http://bioinformatics.ieeta.pt/Mind
Microarray LIMS • Collaborations • GTI (UK) • Joel Arrais (3M Jul-Sep 2005) • Main results • Mapping of the GPX database into the MAGE standard; • Submission of data from GTI microarray database (GPX) to ArrayExpress public database; • Collaboration with the EBI to validate the developed work;
Microarray LIMS • Current/future work: • To validate MAGE-ML with EBI • Microarray data exchange between different information systems • MIND GPX • Main achievement • Novel proposal to allow the exchange of data between microarray databases.
DiseaseCard • Collaborations • ISCIII (SP) • Main Goal • Integration of heterogeneous and distributed genetic and medical databases, under a common appearance and navigation method. • Focus on Rare Diseases • ~ 6,000 distinct rare diseases • 6% to 8% of the population • Between 24-36 M of citizens in EC.
DiseaseCard Evolution INFOBIOMED • Diseasecard 2.0 • Edition of the navigation protocol • Real time construction cards • Diseasecard 2.1 • A new Gene based entry point • Disease/Disorder name or Gene symbol • Improved protocol paths • Simplified interface Last 3 months
Future Work • DiseaseCard • Users validation • To exploit new fields/applications • Microarray LIMS • MAGE-ML exportation (ArrayExpress) • MIND-GPX interconnection • DIA • Evaluate new algorithms • Move the tool into a Web-based application
