2. Acid Rain • An acid reacts with a base and it can have a sour taste to it. An acid that has a PH level of 6 or below is considered acidic. • Acid rain has a high rate of hydrogen ions. Acid rain can be very harmful to nature and its animals. The water reacts with carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxides that form acid rain. Acid rain can come in any form like hail, snow, or anything else that comes from the clouds. Acid Rain Cycle

3. Areas Affected Areas that are affected by acid rain include: • Central Europe • Sweden • Norway • Southeastern section of Canada • China • India • Northeastern parts of the US Heavily populated areas, where cars, trains, and airplanes are, can cause acid rain.

4. China And Acid Rain Because of all the factories in China, they have a lot of problems with acid rain because of all the pollution from the factories. One way they could prevent this is use solar or wind energy (or any other “green” energy source) to power their factories. There are about 4,000 factories in China

5. Problems Places, like China, have acid rain because of the factories in the area. Factories produce and release the chemical that causes the acid rain, into the air and into the water cycle. Problems from acid rain include: • Corrosion of steel structures like Bridges • Erosion of statues • Harm to the ecosystem (contamination of water and harm to plants and animals) Acid rain can pollute the ocean badly because of its acidic chemicals.

6. Preventions Possible methods of protection and prevention include: • Finding cleaner ways to run factories (Wind/solar power) • Reduce the number of factories built • Using corrosion prevention methods for steel structures. • Constantly check water sources for contamination. • Reduce other forms of air pollutants like aerosols and carbon dioxide from cars and planes. Factories are one of the biggest causes of Acid Rain.

Slides set up for PowerPoint. • 4/17/2012 - Part 1 and 4 added into PowerPoint. • 4/18/2012 – Pictures and picture captions added into the PowerPoint. Links added into credit slide and transitions added. • 4/20/2012 – Statements from both partners placed in PowerPoint. Project Finished.

8. Ryan Lakea Vargas It was very nice to work with Cheyenne. Cheyenne and I communicated on E-mail, text, phone calls, and we even met at the library together to finish the collaboration. I finished the 1st part of the project which states that I needed to describe and state the definition of acid rain. I also gathered up websites and pictures of the effects and causes of acid rain. I even decided what area we should study on that was affected by acid rain which came up to be China. I researched information about the population and how much factories China has. I learned a lot about acid rain by just doing my part of the project!

9. Cheyenne Thompson-Covington I enjoyed working with Ryan. We communicated by email and phone as well as meeting at the library to put the project together. I completed parts 2 (places effected) and 3 (Problem and prevention methods) as well as put the PowerPoint together. I learned a lot about acid rain and the effects it has on people and the environment. I even learned a little about China as well thanks to part 4 (done by Ryan). Working on this project, I found, was way more enjoyable and went more smoothly than some other projects I’ve done with other partners. I learned a lot from this project as well as being a flexible partner. :)
