What is service-learning? • Service-learning is a method under which students learn and develop through thoughtfully-organized service that: is conducted in and meets the needs of a community and is coordinated with an institution of higher education, and with the community; helps foster civic responsibility; is integrated into and enhances the academic curriculum of the students enrolled; and includes structured time for students to reflect on the service experience. • Keys To Success Book

PERSONAL BENEFITS OF SERVICE- LEARNING • It gave me an understanding of the needs of the community. • It has increased my citizenship skills. • It has increased my campus-community collaboration. • It invited me to become members of my Valdosta community.
Cookies For Kid’s Cancer I made two batches rice krispie treats for the bake sale for children with cancer.
American Cancer Society • Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature event. The event gets people together to raise money and awareness for cancer initiatives. In Metro Atlanta alone, there are many Relay for Life events scheduled for 2011. Relay for Life offers everyone in a community a chance to participate in the fight against cancer. Teams can come from every part of the community: families, churches, schools and businesses may take part in Relay. Cancer survivors are encouraged to participate in the first lap, the Survivor’s Lap
Relay for life • I raised $20 for Cancer. • I helped set up with the tent for Relay for Life activities. • I also volunteered at tent to help raise money.
