Code Enforcement Division Mission The mission of the City of Gainesville Enforcement Division is to enrich and/or preserve the quality of life and property values through voluntary compliance with local code using proactive education and enforcement.

Division Responsibilities • Minimum Housing Code • Yard trash • Non-operational vehicles • Electrical • Heating and cooking • Structural elements of building • Plumbing • Dangerous Building/Hazardous Land
Division Responsibilities (cont’d) • Land Development Code • Yard Parking • Landlord Permits • Signs • Home Occupation Permits • Residential & Commercial Zoning • Special Event Permits
Specialty Assignments • One officer assigned to address dangerous buildings and hazardous lands to support all officers citywide • Enforces the standards for: • Repair • Vacate • Demolition • Board and Seal and • Abatement
Specialty Assignments (cont’d) • One Landlord Code Officer and a Field Collector are assigned to landlord permit issues citywide • Duties include identifying properties subject to landlord permit requirements and collecting landlord fees due
Typical Enforcement Process • Verbal/Education Warning • Door Tags/Written Warnings • Includes a fair and reasonable time to comply • City Ordinance Citation – Instant Penalty • Notice of Violation • Code Enforcement Board Hearing • Daily Fines – Penalties accumulate until compliance is achieved
