Control Architect • Control Architect Information
Product Overview • Introductions • Tool Introduction (Control Architect) • Project history • Value
Introductions • Control Architect was developed by Automation Software Technology, Inc. (AST) who has a 20 year history with Honeywell developing Engineering applications. The primary software architect and developer is Bill Leibold with over 30 years experience with engineering & maintaining Honeywell Control Systems in addition to being a consultant to Honeywell in several software engineering roles including TPS, TPS Builder, Control Builder and other Engineering Tool developments.
Tool Introduction • Control Architect was developed by Controls Engineers with “Proven & Efficient Project Execution Styles and Plant DCS Standardization in mind”. • Targets PKS Control Systems • Run & Maintain Life-Cycle • New Projects including modernization or migration of legacy Honeywell Hiway • First Product reveal outside of the Shell-Motiva site. This product was used heavily during CEP expansion startup, 3 Process Unit modernization projects executed last year, and continues to be used in supporting Run & Maintain functions.
Control Architect Functions Configuration Views • Multiple Configuration views give Control Engineers the tools to better understand the complexity of their Control strategies and their relationships to other Control Strategy entities. • The SCM views provide not only your typical ChartView, but also a structured language equivalent similar to what we know as CL or Control Language that helps the users to better follow and understand complex or very large SCM implementations. • Control graphs show the complex connection relationships and dependencies between multiple Control Modules that form a Control Strategy.
Control Architect Functions Policy Cop: • PolicyCop is an application tool that analyzes Process Control Strategy configuration and reports errors and other information about the configuration, such as suggested best practices, misuse of function blocks, range scaling issues, missing or incorrectly chosen options, standardization failures, etc. Many of the issues concern design violations and best practices in the design and use of functions that define a Control strategy. • PolicyCop is intended for engineers and organizations that want to develop process Control strategies where standards are enforced and to minimize process Startup issues typically found with new Control Strategy developments.
Control Architect Functions Control Conversion: • The Control Conversion functions support your typical building and editing of PKS Control Execution Environment resident Control Module strategies. These functions allow you to map CEE Function block control properties from a Control Module used as a Template or typical to an Excel File. Scripting support allows you to define transformation or conversion of the Excel data values to conform raw data values to valid Function block values. • A solution has been developed that migrates all Honeywell legacy Hiway data point configuration to PKS CEE resident strategies. • The Control Conversion view supports Hiway Regulatory analysis and graphing to show complex connection and relationships between Hiway Box regulatory and Application Module configuration and AMCL. These analysis and graphing tools give the engineers better understanding of the scope and Strategy behavior when migrating from the legacy Control System platform to PKS.
Past Project History: • Shell-Motiva • The Shell-Motiva site used Control Architect for its modernization projects to support the Technical Assurance function with Honeywell as the Engineering responsibility. • The Shell-Motiva site actively uses Control Architect to support Process and Control Strategy changes to existing PKS Experion based Process units.
Control Architect Brings Value • Configuration View • Ability to view projects remotely or offline without having to have Honeywell PKS software installed. • Enhanced search functions – Function block type, name, etc. • HMIWeb View is useful for extracting tags and scripts. This function defines the scope and assures execution of a complete FAT or SAT on the graphics • Policy Cop • Minimizes the amount of time required for technical assurance over projects. • Automates the tech assurance process therefore minimizing the amount of errors that could possibly be missed when doing a manual check. • Enforces consistency and standards resulting in a more complete product that is easier to maintain. • Minimal errors = Quicker FAT/SAT and easier cutover. • Aids in locating hard to find defects through its ability to define rules that fit patterns. • Control Conversion • The Honeywell Hiway Conversion solution to PKS provides a solution for consistent migration of Hiway Regulatory and other data point configurations. What used to take weeks of effort can now be reduced to days. • If a contractor is responsible for execution of the conversion, this function can verify that points are configured correctly and that all dependencies have been properly configured.
PKS Control Strategy Views Ability to view projects offline or remote without having to install Honeywell software Enhanced search & filtering functions HMIWeb graphics integration for entity references in shapes and script SCM# view that translates SCM sequence blocks into a structured language view with enhanced search and visual functions
PKS Control Strategy Overview Graph View dependencies and relationships between Control modules Provides you with a clear visual analysis of the complexity of your Control strategies
CEE-CEE Peer Analysis View Peer relationships between CEE nodes within a PKS Server Provides you with visual analysis of the Peer relationships within your PKS Server to guide design decisions and minimize Peer SubSystem traffic
ICG Peer Analysis View InterCluster Gateway Peer relationships between PKS Servers Provides you with visual analysis of the scope of ICG usage between communities to help in making decisions that impact hard to find relationships
Control Conversion Templates Supports Bulk Build/Edit using Excel as a DataSource Supports mapping of Excel data values to PKS Control properties Supports scripting to transform raw data values to valid CEE Function Block parameter values Supports Control Binding evaluation & testing Allows you to quickly connect to your Excel DataSource to update or generate new PKS Control strategies Enhanced DataCollection view supports filtering functions that allows you to view only values that have changed Data Collection View results can be copied and pasted into Excel to support a Bulk Edit in Control Builder
Honeywell Hiway Regulatory Analysis Supports Analysis of Hiway Box Regulatory Control Graph shows entity connection relationships to Box entities, AM Regulatory, AMCL, Hiway Analog Engineers are able to visually view the full scope of the Control Strategy migration AMCL and CL Package References can be viewed in a CL Source View Control Graph objects can be dragged to new positions for documentation clarity
Honeywell Hiway Control Conversion Supports Conversion of all Hiway Box Regulatory CB/EC/MC and PIU’s Hiway Regulatory analysis includes pattern detection for PID FeedForward and LeadLag/DeadTime modeling implementations to properly generate CEE strategies that use PIDFF and LL/DT modeling. Supports Hierarchical Control Module development Workflow Manager uses a Control Conversion Activity to process the DataCollection results and generate PKS CEE resident Control modules that can be imported through Control Builder
Control Conversion Workflow Activities Honeywell Exception Build (EB) file conversion to Excel Workflow Activity • Quickly translate EB files to Microsoft Excel where Worksheets are created for each detected Point Type Control Conversion Workflow Activity • Quickly generate new PKS CEE Control Module entities or update existing Control modules using the results of a saved Data Collection executed on a Control Conversion Template.
PolicyCop Analyzes Process Control Strategy configuration and reports errors and other information about the configuration, such as suggested best practices, misuse of function blocks, range scaling issues, missing or incorrectly chosen options, standardization failures, etc. Many of the issues concern design violations and best practices in the design and use of functions that define a Control strategy Develop Process Control strategies where standards are enforced and Process Startup issues typically found with new Control Strategy developments are minimized Reduce FAT & Startup efforts by engaging in the Technical Assurance process early during the Project development cycle
CA Rule Author Build/edit your own rules to validate through PolicyCop Rich API allows unlimited analysis of your Configuration Asset including Function Block level parameters and attributes, Function Block connection analysis within Control modules and external Control modules, use of Excel csv file to define standards such as EUDESC/KEYWORD values, etc.
