Dimitri Mendeleev Russian chemist who produced the first periodic table of elements. Mendeleev's periodic table is arranged in order of increasing atomic mass.
Modern Periodic Table English chemist H.G.J Moseley developed the concept of atomic number and contributed to Mendeleev’s periodic table by arranging the elements by the atomic number and not the atomic mass. When the elements are arranged in increasing order of atomic number, the discrepancies in Mendeleev’s table disappeared.
The periodic law is the basis for the periodic table. It is a natural law that states that the physical and chemical properties of the elements are periodic functions of their atomic numbers. Periodic LAW
An element is a substance that cannot be separated into simpler substances by a chemical change. Elements
Elements are the simplest type of pure substance. There are slightly more than 100 known chemical elements that are arranged on the periodic table developed by Dmitri Mendeleev. Each element is abbreviated with one or two symbols. The 1st letter is capitalized and the 2nd is not. Each symbol represents the English name, old name, or Latin name of the element.
EXAMPLE: (Latin) Aurum-Gold –Au (English) Oxygen – O (Old) Natrium – Sodium - Na Some elements are named after famous scientists, countries, states, and planets. (101)Mendelevium – scientist (Dmitri Mendeleev) (32) Germanium – country (Germany) (98) Californium – state (California) (92) Uranium – planet (Uranus)
