Investing in Central Europe • Look at the diagram showing car company investment in Central Europe and answer the questions themselves. • Who invest most in Poland? • Who is building a new car plant in the former East Germany? • Who is investing in five central European countries? • Which country is receiving the highest total investment ? • Which country is receiving the least investment ?

Discuss the topic: Why are companies investing so much in Central Europe ?

Possible reasons suggested : • Cheap workforce • Generous inward investment grants from local governments • Slow economic growth at home • Rapid development of central eastern European car markets • Good locations for exporting to the former Soviet Union • Having production facilities in Europe enables Asian and US companies to avoid restrictions on imports into Europe • Investment boost local economics and add to market growth • Higher returns on investment due to low-costs

And how much does he earn a week ? 2) How much will he earn if he works an Germany as production engineer ? 3) What makes the car-makers invest in eastern and central Europe? 4) How much is Volkswagen spending on new car and engine plants in the former East company? 5) Would all the manufacturers like to expand in the east?
