1. Scholarship Application 100 Black Men of Greater Charlotte, Inc. Scholarship Application is available after December 15th of each year and may be acquired from our local chapter or our web site www.100blackmenofcharlotte.org. It is encouraged and preferred that the applications be typed. 2. Essay Applicants are required to submit a 600 word essay using one of the following topics. It is also encouraged and preferred that the essays be typed. Education: In many communities, less than fifty percent of African Americans graduate from high school. Discuss in detail how you would seek to resolve this problem. Politics: President Obama introduced a number of new initiatives such as the Health Care Plan, and Tax Reform. Explain how these initiatives impacted the mid-term elections. Peer Pressure: In America, peer pressure is one of the leading causes of tragic incidents among high school students today. Based upon your experience with friends and peers, what are some strategies that could be used to reduce the rate of peer pressure among young Black men and women? Movement of Youth: Impact of the Movement of Youth on your life and how you will apply skills learned to your college experience. 3. Official Academic Transcript 4. GPA � 2.0 OR Greater Applicants must request an official academic transcript from their most recent school or college. Transcripts must be included in the packets. 5. Confirmation of Community Service Form Applicants are required to have performed a minimum of 50 �active� service hours within the 4 years of the mentoring program. Scholarship applicants and recipients should complete and submit the Confirmation of Community Service Form as certification of service performed.
