Ireland • Serious offence 6 months, not 5 years (1997 Bail Act) • 12 month retention • After consultation with ISPs didn’t opt for 2 years allowable by directive • Data retained: • Names of Sender/Receiver; IPs; Times logged on/off; Size & Type of attachments; Mobile phone info already available • No warrant • Garda Commissioner to make requests • Must only report on the efficiency of handling
Technology • Smart CCTV • Face detection • Video Motion Anomaly Detection (VMAD) • Advanced Passenger Information System (US) • full name, gender, date of birth, nationality, country of residence, and travel document type and number • Quickly adapted from International Cargo System (ICS) • Biometric Passports • Chip readable from up to 7 meters away • Arbitrary info now, but in future?
