Some Background. Romeo is a Montague. Juliet is a Capulet. The Montagues and Capulets hate each other. So the Montagues and Capulets fight. Romeo loves a girl named Rosaline…. Who doesn’t love him back.

Some Background Romeo is a Montague Juliet is a Capulet.
Romeo loves a girl named Rosaline… Who doesn’t love him back.
Romeo’s friends want him to crash a party at the Capulets’ house, but Romeo has had a dream that if he does, something bad will happen.
Romeo goes to the Capulet masquerade party, where he thinks he’ll see Rosaline.
When the party’s over, Romeo leaves his friends and sneaks back in to see Juliet.
Juliet makes Romeo swear. During the balcony scene Juliet is worried that she has said too much, so before she will go any further with Romeo, she makes him swear he’ll marry her. Romeo: “Wilt thou leave me so unsatisfied?” Juliet: “What satisfaction canst thou have tonight?” Romeo: “The exchance of my love’s faithful vow for thine own.”
Romeo and Juliet swear their love for one another, despite their families’ differences.
Romeo and Juliet get married… in secret.
Tybalt, Juliet’s cousin wants to kill Romeo for crashing the Capulet party.
Romeo is banished. This means he cannot return to Verona or to Juliet without the danger of being killed.
Juliet does not want Romeo to leave.
Juliet takes a potion from Friar Lawrence that will make her seem dead for forty-two hours until Romeo can come and rescue her from the marriage her parents have planned for her to Paris.
Everyone thinks Juliet is dead. The plan is working.
Romeo does not get the Friar’s letter informing him of the secret plan with Juliet. Balthazar tells Romeo that he has seen Juliet dead. Romeo is in despair and buys poison from and apothecary in Mantua, where he has been sent in exile.
