  1. How to shell a coconut! You will need: 1 fresh coconut : screwdriver & hammer : fine mesh sieve : oven at 190ºC : potato peeler

  2. Drain coconut water • Locate the 3 ‘eyes’ of the coconut • Puncture the coconut eyes using the screwdriver and hammer • Strain coconut water into a bowl

  3. Bake drained coconut Bake coconut at 190ºC for 10-15 minutes -- this will help release the meat from the shell of the coconut.

  4. Hit coconut along equator • Find the coconut’s equator (marked with red in both photos above) • Hit along equator with the hammer until the coconut splits (above right)

  5. Pull coconut halves apart

  6. Pull meat out of shell - The meat should come out of the shell easily – but if not, turn the half shell side up and continue hitting with the hammer until the meat is released
