  3. SARS Impact and Come Back Strategies

  4. SARS Impact • Thailand was not an effected country and had no in-country transmission of SARS; • Impact on the Thai Exhibition Industry was relatively small.

  5. Why small Impact? Two key reasons: • There were not many International Exhibitors during the key period of April to June; • Thai government responded quickly and effectively to the treat of SARS to boost confidence in business and travel.

  6. Low Level of Impact • Existing shows: Number of overseas trade visitors decreased by ~25-30%; • Existing shows: The sizes of the shows decreased. Oversea exhibitors cancelled ~ 5-20% of the reserved areas; • New shows: They have been postponed.

  7. Actions • The government will continue to boost confidence and minimize the concerns of travelers and businessman; • TEA will continue to provide useful information for exhibitors and full support to Thai government. Now, the confidence among exhibitors and visitors have begun to rise.

  9. Situation of Exhibition Industry in Thailand • Our vision: To be a globally recognized International Center for Trade Exhibition • Last year (2002) was the most successful year with over 100 Exhibitions and Trade Fairs together with the largest World Congress ever held in Thailand.

  10. Number of Annual Exhibitions

  11. Growth of Thailand’s Exhibition Industry • Oversea visitors in 2002: Approximately 21% increase over 2001; • Growth in 2003: Anticipated to increase 8-10% over 2002; • Space: Significantly increase from ~ 20000 sqm in 1993 to almost 140000 sqm in 2003. Two new convention centers in Changmai and Phuket are expected to be completed in 2006-2007.

  13. Venues - BITEC Exhibition space: 36,000 sq.m. 6 halls Convention space: 1,720 sq.m. 3 halls Meeting rooms: 20

  14. Venues - Impact Exhibition space: 50,000 sq.m. Convention space: 30,000 sq.m. Meeting rooms: 11 Grand ballroom 2,000 sq.m.

  15. Venues - QSNCC Exhibition space : 5,240 sq.m. - 4 halls Convention space: 4,656 sq.m. Meeting rooms 900 sq.m. Ballroom 875 sq.m.

  16. Venue - PEACH Exhibition and Convention space: 4,851 sq.m.

  17. Infrastructure New Sky Train (1999) New MRTA Subway (2004) New Airport (2005)

  18. Two Important Events • The UFI World Congress in 2004; • The establishment of the MICE Bureau in 2003. Strong leadership of both MICE Bureau and TEA and the synergy between these two organization will ensure the successful growth of Thailand’s Exhibition Industry.
