  6. Introduction The focus of this report is a case study comparing container storage of the Port of Cristobal vs the Port of Gulfport. More specifically, this report compares the way the containers are organized at each port. Port of Cristobal Port of Gulfport

Information/ Data Collection Approach First approach: Internet Search • An internet search was conducted by entering certain keywords used in Google search • These keywords generated a number of informational databases that were beneficial in comparing the Port of Cristobal and the Port of Gulfport

  9. Information/ Data Collection Approach Second Approach: Personal Interview/ Bus Tour • The Port of Cristobal was analyzed by a bus tour of the facility and in informal bus tour. The Port of Gulfport was further examined by interviewing the Chief Operating Officer of the Mississippi State Port Authority in Gulfport. Mariana Sossa Matt Wypeski

  10. Information/ Data Collection Approach A series of questions were asked to both port representatives in order to gain a better understanding of the storage process

  11. Case Study • Port of Cristobal • Specializes in handling and transporting cargo • Recently underwent a large expansion in order to handle and store more cargo • A project supported by Panama’s government and is managed and financed by the Panama Canal Authority.

  12. Case Study • Port of Gulfport • The Port of Gulfport is managed by the Mississippi State Regulations and a Board of Commissions. • The containers are transferred three ways: vessel-to-vessel, vessel to rail, or vessel to truck • Currently expanding existing dock to maintain more TEU’s

  16. Results and Results Impact • Importance of Results • These similar results are important because it shows how standard the container storage process is for ports across the globe. • These results of differences are important because it shows the contrast in port size and imports/exports.

Summary • The Port of Balboa and the Port of Gulfport specialize in the handling and transportation of cargo. • The focus of this case study is to compare the container storage of the Port of Cristobal to the Port of Gulfport. • Two research methods were used: Internet searches and personal interviews • Certain criteria such as storage location, capacity, type of cargo, and duration of storage were analyzed. • The results showed both storage techniques to be very similar. • The impact of these results show that the two ports are able to be successful because they mold certain rules and processes in order to be able to work with global partners
