  1. What is Hazing? • AXO’s definition: • Any action or situation, with or without consent of the participants, which recklessly, intentionally or unintentionally endangers the mental, physical, academic health or safety of a member.

What Activities are Considered Hazing? • Personal servitude • Sleep deprivation • Restrictions on personal hygiene • Yelling, swearing and insulting new members • Being forced to wear embarrassing or humiliating attire in public • Brandings • Physical beatings • Binge drinking and drinking games • Sexual simulation and sexual assault Stophazing.org

  3. Are These Things Hazing? • Having new members pick you up from a party/ get you food when you want it in the middle of the night. • Having the second year members serve as “babysitters” to the first year/newest members at parties so that the new members can have a good time while having someone there to take care of them. • Having new members sit on the floor during chapter meetings while the initiated members sit in chairs. • Telling new members they can’t wear letters until they are initiated. • Calling a new member a pledge. • Having new members go on a scavenger hunt around campus taking pictures at landmark locations.

  4. Answer: Yes! Some of these examples may not seem like hazing but they can all put someone in a risky situation and uncomfortable position.

  6. Does the choice you make positively reflect yourself and your sisters? Do my behaviors and actions • Preserve and promote human dignity? Do my choices reveal a personal commitment to the values of alpha chi • Omega that I will lead a life committed to grace, respect and honor?
