RATIONALE • BSWM have generated a wealth of information in extensive technical reports together with ground validated thematic maps of the country available in analog format • These are available at the BSWM Client Center in analog or hard copy format which requires cost for printing • Transparency and good governance BSWM Good Governance Summit 2014

What is BSWM map portal? • A library of digital maps (picture files, PDF and GIS-ready) which are products derived from 15 years of fieldwork through the nationwide land resources evaluation project. • Further, has undergone validation and consultation with stakeholders, local executives, and other government agencies concerned with the rational utilization of our land resources. What is BSWM map portal? • Digital maps included in the portal (geodatabase-ready information) • Landscape • Land Management Unit • Soils/physiography • Land limitation: Slope, Erosion • Landuse and Vegetation: Present and Potential • Accessible for download free-of-charge BSWM Good Governance Summit 2014

AIM OF THE PORTAL To provide free baseline information that may be valuable for land resources planning including potential agricultural development and strategic prioritization of commodities consistent with the national food security programs and climate change adaptations BSWM Good Governance Summit 2014

USES OF THE PORTAL • Potential decision-support for: • Better zoning of cropping systems • Strategic positioning of agri-support services (Farm to Market Roads, Post Harvest Facilities, etc.) • Identification and implementation of agri-environmental intervention measures • Rational expansion of built-up areas BSWM Good Governance Summit 2014

USES OF THE PORTAL • Potential decision-support for: • Establishment of conservation areas • Planning for climate change adaptation vis a vis Vulnerability and Suitability Assessment (VSA) decision tool for the implementation of Philippine Rural Development Program (PRDP) • Even planning for disaster mitigation measures • And many more … BSWM Good Governance Summit 2014
