Routines • Diaries to be handed in every day with evidence of home reading (please initial and write comments) 5 reads per week for a reading star which will work towards a reading reward. • ‘Edgy Time’ to be completed and evidenced weekly. • ‘Edgy Time’ will be given out every Monday to promote home learning and involving the whole family. Please support as much as you are able. Details of this will be on the blog. • If your child is unsure about the Edgy Time – please remind them to ask their teacher or teaching partner! • PE kit in school all the time - spare socks too! • Forest school kit (We will have Forest School in Autumn 1, Spring 1 and Summer 1).

  5. Reading at home • ‘Independent reading’ books – book bands • Children will be offered a range of books that are suited to their current reading ability. • Their reading will be assessed regularly (word reading and comprehension) and they will be moved into a higher book band when they are ready. • The children are responsible for choosing their books – on occasion they may enjoy a book so much they choose it again! • Library books • Children will have the opportunity to choose a Library book each week to bring home. This is not a ‘banded’ book and is the child’s own choice so may not exactly suit their current reading ability. • Please join us in encouraging children to choose a range of text types that challenge them, while also respecting and nurturing their personal preferences and love of reading! * If you have any questions about your child’s reading please speak to their class teacher.*

Assessment (including SATs) • At the end of Year 2, children take SATs in: • Reading (short text and questions, long text and questions) • Maths (arithmetic and reasoning/problem-solving) • Y2 SATs are much more ‘low key’ than Y6 SATs – timetable is managed according to needs of children. • Results of tests, along with other evidence are used to make judgements on the children’s progress. • All children will be regularly assessed in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and maths to keep track of progress and identify areas for support or greater depth. • Focus on breadth and depth of understanding, rather than ‘next step’ or ‘harder work’. • Information on progress and specific areas for development will be shared in Parents’ Meetingsand at the end of the year in your child’s report. * We will be running a SATs information session nearer to SATs time – date tbc*
