What is Cyberbullying? • According to the CDC: • Any type of harassment or bullying (teasing, telling lies, making fun of someone, making rude or mean comments, spreading rumors, or making threatening or aggressive comments) that occurs through email, a chat room, instant messaging, a website (including blogs), or text messaging.

  5. Activity • Each student will be given a marker • Rows will be called up one at a time, and students will write down at least one form of cyber bullying • Class will go over each poster board to evaluate answers written

  6. Different Ways to Cyberbully • Email • Text Message • Picture Message • Tweet • Website Posting • Video Post/Message • Instant Message • Identity Theft • Create Webpage • Create Fanclub • Gaming Console

How Can You Avoid Cyberbullying? • Don’t give your phone number/email address to anyone you don’t trust • Don’t give your pin number or password to anyone!!!!!!! • Set privacy settings on your accounts • Don’t accept friendships online of anyone you don’t trust • Defriend or block anyone who has cyberbullied you in the past • Never post or share personal information/photos that you are embarrassed of • While these techniques may not stop all cyberbullies they certainly can help prevent it in the future

Ways to Handle Cyberbullying • Stop-Block-Tell • Stop: “Take-5”: step away from the computer and do something that relaxes you (yoga, shoot hoops, go for a walk) • Block: block the cyberbully from your friend list • Tell: if cyberbullying continues than report it • How to Report it: • Tell a parent/adult you trust • Report it to the service provider: they may be breaking the terms of service • Keep evidence of cyberbullying: save emails or messages, print it out, take a picture
